To all that want to help in the fight to save the trees at Ackerman Woods, please email Chris at the address below to help us out:

Dear Members and Friends,

At last Monday night's Village Board meeting, the Board made it clear that, in spite of citizen protests, they will precede with their plan to cut down 342 native trees in Ackerman Park. Bids will go out a week from this Friday. In response to resident requests that the project be halted, the Village Board continues to say that it is up to the Park District to save the woods.

In spite of the strong out-pouring of letters and emails, the Village Board continues to state that this is merely the work of "a vocal minority." It has become imperative to show the Village and Park Boards that the majority of Glen Ellyn residents do not want to lose this last remnant of native woodland.

Time is running out and we need your help:

1. Sign the petition at https://petitiononline.securesites.com/gewoods/.

2. Attend the Park District Board meeting on Tuesday, May 20th, 7:00 p.m., Spring Ave. Rec Center and ask the board to consider alternatives to this drastic plan.

3. Help pass out post cards that ask residents to attend the Park District Board Meeting on May 20th.

This Weekend, Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation will be assisting the Save Ackerman Woods group in passing out post cards. Won't you lend a hand?

If yes, please email me your name, address and phone number.

Thanks,

Chris Wilson
President, Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation

If you are a store owner in the CBD and want to help out, please contact ME at my address in my profile and I will drop off a large print of the card for your store window or door.

Impressive!
389 names in - what? - a couple of days?
I see some of the names are duplicates and others are from out-of-district, but even so, it seems well over 1% of our population has expressed their disapproval in a pretty short time.
As they say on the website, wouldn't a little delay be preferable to a permanent error?

What does the The Glen Ellyn Environmental Commission think about this? They just had a tree care seminar, I wonder if anyone talked to them about Ackerman Woods.

FYI, I am unable to add my name to the petition due for some reason, so there may be others like me that would like to sign it as well.

Actually, it is 1.466666666%, and that is since Monday morning. I would say that is pretty darn good.

Which referendum? The D41 one? That was 25% that said yes.

5000 cards are being printed up and will be ready by tomorrow evening. If you can spare an hour or so, please email the address above and help save the woods. There are many other things in the works, so if you would like to volunteer, that would be great and would be greatly appreciated.

If you are a business in GE and want a poster to put in our window, please email me and I will drop one off tomorrow.

I feel like Jerry Lewis right now, but we are begging, the forest is begging, for your help. Don't let one of the last open spaces in Glen Ellyn die for a strip mall.

Did the village board again call this movement 'vocal minority' ?? if so, ignorance never ceases.

No, the PD one where we gave them a blank check to do essentially whatever they wished, whether they had passed it by the public or not.
