Leamington...I don't think you are stupid. I think you are a solid thinker who does not look only at the bottom line to form every opinion. What seems stupid is how Tax, Ack and Shrugged have to continuously argue their points as if there is anything different being said. You disagree. Deal with it. Let's not revert to calling names.

No sense arguing with you about this your steel trap mind ignores all logic and reasoning.

That is a great line coming from you, but it fits both sides.

For the record, Rob, others, re-read my post, I called no one any names. What a truly stupid thing to say: "But you like it right?" Leamington did not say that, never said they did. You people need to read before reacting. That Leamington called him or herself stupid is their right, I think.

Fan, yes, you and I have had our differences, but, like Jombl and Gus, with whom I have also had differences with, I enjoy the posts. Glad you're "back" Fan, now everyone, please resist posting a "kumbaya" link.

"What a truly stupid thing to say", well, I must be a little stupid because I thought that was kind of like calling me stupid, but okay, if you say so. And I appreciate the wisdom on this thread as I am relatively new here and enjoy the learning experience (because, obviously, I need it).

So the plans are made and we stick to 'em, eh? Pardon the Robert Burns, but "The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray". What then? I'm kinda dumb, but doesn't that suggest the wisdom of having a contingency or plan "B"?
Is that how contractors work? Doctors? "Well, we opened you up, removed the cancerous cells, and found a tumor. Since that wasn't part of the agreed upon budget, we sewed you up. Want us to go back in?"

I beleive in a sense, part of the PD's mission is keeping up with the Jonses. Isn't that how we attract people/users? "I'll go to GE because they have platform tennis, afterward I'll go have a Blue Moon at Ellyns." Or are we better off with lesser attractions and sub-standard programs.

Have you been to Ackerman? Every time I've seen it the place is very busy. Did the Board do anything illegal? Or just something you don't like?

""Honey, we need new wheels and we can afford a $22K car, good luck." Period." By the way, you are changing, ever so slightly, your logic and have introduced a new concept into your arguement. Initially, in your example, you said it was just an agreed upon budget number of $22k. When you last referred to it, it was what you "can afford". I'm stupid, but there's a difference. My spouse would have the leeway to modify or adapt to changes that may occur or new information that may be presented. Isn't a rigid, stick to the plans mentality part of what doomed the German army in World War II? Could be wrong, kind of stupid.

This reminds me of one of those Jombl back and forths with GERing.

“I beleive [sic*] in a sense, part of the PD's mission is keeping up with the Jonses.” Absurd and hysterical. Thanks, one of the funniest things I’ve ever read here, please point me to that mission statement will you? (* today is National Grammar Day 2010, thanks for playing along... or do you spell it “grammer?”)

Leamington, my logic hasn’t changed, maybe your ability to understand it has. A budget, or the total sum of money set aside or needed for a purpose, is established by what one can afford, comparing income to expenses, or what you might know as “insies” and “outsies.”

To stick with my analogy, whether I’ve seen or driven in the $33K car, witnessed it’s extensive use, known it was procured legally or is not to my preference, is irrelevant to the fact that it is still $11K over the approved budget and that the trust between the parties involved has been broken.

If $7.4 million could not accommodate the “best laid plans”, then I would suggest, those planners failed. If things went “astray” to the tune of $3.8 million, then I would suggest those planners failed.

And the cancer analogy, nope, sorry. This project was not an unknown, it was not a renovation of an older, existing structure, there should not have been any surprises to the tune of $3.8 million, and don’t tell me it was for necessary change orders.

“My spouse would have the leeway to modify or adapt to changes that may occur or new information that may be presented.” Well, why didn’t you start with “My spouse is a board member.”

Wow! Am I to assume the argument "All the other kids are doing it!" carries the day in casa Bio

Never said that thank you. And I would not accept "carrying the day"- Read my post in it's entirety without taking thinks out of context.

Government gets their mistakes handed to them on a platter due to the public process while the rest of us can usually hide our mistakes behind closed doors. A mistake is a mistake and as I said, there are many fine deeds done by elected officials and government employees as in any organization. But who publicizes the good deeds?- Here's a local example close to home- GE was exceptional compared to almost all it's peers when they decided to go with concrete streets vs. asphalt decades ago. The long-term maintenance paid off in spades due to the longer life of concrete and the rising cost of oil. But it cost more upfront which is almost always a tough sell to the taxpayer which usually causes most elected officials to go with the cheap, budget saving, elect me again alternative as I "saved" tax money.

So you got a really nice PD facility- cost more than expected but you got what you paid for, and yes probably could have been handled better by the people in charge in hind sight.
