As a parent who has participated and coached house league soccer, I am frustrated with how disorganized the process has been this year. I am not sure why the teams can't be notified sooner. I realize how long this process must take with the amount of kids and all the logistics. I am very cognizant of the difficulty in the job. However, I still think that coaches and teams need to be notified sooner than 1 week before the first game.
This year there were numerous emailing issues. Two coaches did not even know they were coaching until today and 5 days ago. Both parents had to call and seek out that info. If those parents had not been at the meeting Wednesday, the leaders should have called those coaches to confirm they knew they were indeed coaching.
The teams are also totally mixed up. I love mixing the schools in the later grades like 4th or 5th grade, but in kindergarten, kids should be with a majority of their peers. They are just getting to know people and trying to make friends for school. One of the teams has 2 girls from Forest Glen and the rest all from Lincoln with a Glen Ellyn coach. Another team has two girls the rest boys. All Forest Glen and two kids from Lincoln. Why aren't the two boys from Lincoln on the team that has all Lincoln and 2 Forest Glen?
I know the leaders all work hard but there needs to be better communication and an effort to get this information to parents sooner. I know Dads come from a different perspective than a mom or stay at home Dad. Moms and SAHD's are planning schedules for several children and they are also asked to sign up for other classes so early in the spring/summer that you end up having to sign up early and then cancel classes when you find out at the last minute when your practice will be and that there is a conflict. Moms need as much information as they can get as soon as they can get it in order to schedule the other 100 things they have going.
I do not mean to sound angry, just frustrated and wish that maybe a mom could help with the planing of schedules and team placement and help add to the perspective of the Dads. I also think that the team leaders need to return emails and contact their teams sooner. I have not heard from the coach of 1 of my kids, yet we have contacted the team we are coaching and did so the day we got the roster.
Maybe trying to get some suggestions from other parents on how to improve this would be helpful for all. I am sure the Park District would appreciate less phone calls from frustrated parents and that happens when parents are informed. Information given early and often helps everyone.
I agree. It's not a huge deal, but I have held off on registering my soccer child for ice skating and swimming because I have no idea on which day her practices will be.
I haven't officially heard from my child's coach either, but have heard through the grapevine whose team she is on and know at least on child on her team.

We received an email today (my hubby is assitant coaching a K team) that explained the Lincoln area kids only had 1 parent volunteer to coach, while 60 Lincoln kids signed up to play.
I heard from coaches about the Lincoln issue either and I totally understand. My main frustration is really the time it takes to let the parents know and the difficulty in having a schedule or team with more than 1 week notice. We coach a ton and have for all our kids, so I do understand that, but we contact the parents the minute we get the roster. It just helps everyone so much.
