That is all fine and good but having a sure fire lottery pick on your basketball team (especially a team that lacks a shooter), does a whole lot to improve it. If you've watched any Illinois games this year, you would see that they would easily be a Top-20 team with Eric Gordon. Yes, he's that good and he's that much of a difference maker.

And, if you follow college sports closely, you will see that football and basketball recruiting are totally different animals as each player has a much lesser impact on the team in football than it does in basketball. Each year in football, twenty something recruits come in - in basketball, the number is around 3.

Also, although this sounds strange, football coaches constantly recruit "committed players"...in basketball, this is a no-no....at least it was until Sampson came along....once he is fired tomorrow...maybe the "decorum" will return.

I can set it up again.

And I think we're going to get it done.

I apologize for today's loss. In my 'irrational exuberance' I put my Illinois flag out, which was not out for the previous 3 games. Therefore, I jinxed the team.

Can't believe Illinois State didn't get in, they were my backup team. The Missouri Valley Conference got screwed with only one entry. Wonder if Georgia kicked them out...

Yes and if the Bulls had Kobe and LeBron they would make the playoffs.

Gordon is no doubt a good player, but Indiana did not make the NCAA even with him nor are they a top 20 team. Illinois finished the regular season at I think 16-18 so you are saying that Gordon would improve the non-fighting Illinois by ten games . For a Freshman that is pretty amazing .

Once someone starts doing what Simpson did expect others to follow. Also with some kids giving Oral commitments as early as 8th grade these days the whole concept of
commitment is subject to scrutiny. Finally, what happens to kids and remember these are still kids who commit to a school because of a coach but the coach gets canned or he himself leaves. You have coaches who leave programs for bigger jobs, more bucks whatever. Why get so mad or deny a seventeen year old the right to do the same.

Don't slam my fightin Hoosiers - even though I pick them to lose in the first round. Eric Gordon IS that good. he is a difference maker on virtually any team. Is he ready for the NBA, probably. Would he have made a 5-10 game difference in the win column for the Illini, absolutely.

I agree with you on all the other aspects Taxpayer.

You only have to look at the recruits from Bill Self before the exodus to see this point in action. Is it fair for these kids who committed to Self to stay at Illinois when he moves on to Kansas? Should Bill be able to bring his recruits to Kansas with him? Do these kids commit to a Coach and a program or a School. Fantasy says they should commit to their education first and sports second. Reality proves the opposite.

Yeah my bad I had them eliminated so fast I forgot they made it. But then again next week so will most people.
