Mystery over
Now Sandberg can go to Pittsburgh where he will become a folk hero. "A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." William James |

Wrigley Field . . . where managers go to die. Poor guy.

Never understood the call for Ryno, I think the guy needs to be an understudy in the bigs for a few years, at least. He's done well in the minors. Perhaps Quade brings him up (although that could be hiring his own successor) or perhaps he ought to go get his experience elsewhere in the bigs, and then come back (ala Ozzie with the Marlins).
After getting hopes up (and dashed) with marquee managers the last two times around, I'm sort of ambivalent about this whole search. It's all about the horses. The Cubs have a few. But not enough to win it all for a while. |

Personally think all of that needing to be an understudy is a bunch of B.S.
What kind of experience did Girardi have before he took the Marlins job. Or Guillen with the Sox. When Sandberg first wanted the job a couple of years ago Hendry told him that he had to manage in the minors which he did. Managed in A and AAA was manager of the year in his league last year. Now they tell him you need to be a bench coach or a 3rd base coach. So if I was Sandberg I would be pissed to. That said I don't think Managers make a tremendous amount of difference in a team. |
