So, after watching the first half and seeing the interception return for TD called back for a holding penalty I Googled Phil Luckett, the guy who threw the flag. I remember his name from a few other controversial calls over the years and read this entry from his Wikipedia page...


2007 Divisional Playoffs
Luckett, again being criticized for his poor officiating was accused of causing the San Diego Chargers to lose a vital playoff game against Peyton Manning's Indianapolis Colts in the 2007 playoffs. With 18 seconds left to go in the 2nd quarter, Manning threw an interception picked off by Antonio Cromartie and returned for a touchdown to put the Chargers up 13-10 with 3 seconds left in the half, essentially to give the Chargers momentum to go into the 3rd quarter. Luckett then threw a flag onto the field and called a holding penalty on the Chargers to rid them of their touchdown and give the Colts the lead going into the half. The holding call is still widely disputed among NFL officials since it is unaware where it took place on the field.

. . . and removed before the game, which the Chargers did go on to win, was over.
