Doesn't feel as exciting as '03. What's in store? Cards certainly did well last year in same position. Let the games begin....

Agree. In 2003, there was a sense they were going to go all the way to the WS and win it. This year, not so much. "Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains." (Winston Churchill) |

I know I said I'd be nice, but it's "whimper" you moron!!! Your barbed wit would be sooooooooooooo much more effective if you could spell!!! OK, now I’ll go back to being nice. I was at the game.....we got what we deserve. I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac. I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog. |

Derserved. Past tense. You'll get what you deserve, you got what you deserved. Other than that...I agree with what you said. Sorry...really didn't want to point that out, but I had to. It will make you stronger. |

BRYSOXFAN, Really, the Rays and Royals would have changed the division winner? Give me your best Bill James impression and explain how 2 teams with near-similiar records to the cellar dweller of the NL Central would have somehow changed things. And your reference to the 2005 White Sox title, while very nice for the South siders hardly qualifies as a landscape changing event. This will always be a Bears town...followed closely by the Cubs. The Bulls and White Sox are a distant tie for third...and always will be. Emphasis on "distant". And if Bill Wirtz (God rest his soul) had been born with a brain rather than a silver spoon, the Blackhawks would be right there too. It seems easy for you to rip the Cubs, but let's hear something that's not straight out of Cubune.com. An original thought, please. You'll be getting an important lesson on how much the Cubs are worth in the near future when the sale goes through. Compare that to Chicago's second division team. Talk about your "landscape changing" events. |

I blame it on the adrenaline. See other post.

Oh stop. Cub fans would still be dealing with Andy McPhail if the Sox did not win in 2005. The landscape changed in that Cub fans refused to be jerked around anymore. Their attendance through the turnstiles went down in 2006. I did not make that up. That was McDonough. You might also remember that the Blackhawks were the valuable team (after the Bears) years ago. Not the Cubs or White Sox. But that capital was squandered. Ronald M. Kas |

Chicago Cubs attendance at Wrigley Field 2006 3,123,215 2005 3,100,262 2004 3,170,154 2003 2,962,630 2002 2,693,096 Looks like attendance went down a tick in '05...with a slight jump in '06. You made that up, RK! White Sox attendance 2006 2,957,414 2005 2,342,833 2004 1,930,537 2003 1,939,524 2002 1,676,911 Crumby team or not...it certainly pays to have a ballpark in a neighborhood that the Midwest perceives to be safe. Don't see a lot of Iowans bussed into the south side for a game. That said, if I am taking my kids to a game...I'm going to The Cell. It's like going to the mall most nights, drive up...get out of the car...you're in your seat in 10 minutes. Food is better, bathrooms are right there, you're rarely gone more than 1 batter for any reason. Simply because there are not that many people given the size of te place. Wrigley Field...unless you're with your friends...is a pain in the crotch. A total hassle...from getting there, to being there, and leaving there. Great ballpark, though. |

Your BoSox look awfully good, Clam.
Turnstile count is not the same as tickets sold. Refer to McDonough's interviews. Toward the end of last year, there were many empty seats. Tickets are one thing. Concession sales are critical to their marketing. You can't have empty seats. No add on sales. Were you living out here when the Sox almost moved to Addison? Before the great fraudulent negotiation to move the team to St. Petersburg. Those Florida people are such rubes. Ronald M. Kas |

We could argue about the best/worst divisions in baseball all day long, but we both know that these things are cyclical...except of course for the AL East where the 2 big spenders will ensure some measure of success. Which brings us to TB. It is unfortunate that a small market team is in the same division with the behemoths, but to think they and KC would have won another division would make you....well, blind. Take a look at what those 2 teams have done against the NL in interleague play. 20 games below .500 for each of them. With no DH it ain't getting any better. Your quote about the big bad Tribune driving up the price..WHILE TRYING TO SELL ONE OF THEIR ASSETS...is really puzzling. Isn't that the point?...trying to get the most they can? Is there another way that is more palatable to the staff at Cubune? BTW, what will the "watchers" be watching once the sale is complete? |
