Did anyone else notice the Tribune picture of Benson on his boat with the Coors Light commercial going on in the background? Was that bottle at the right side of the picture Belvedere or Grey Goose? Clam, I defer to you.
The whole story seems fishy and I'm not sure the case against Benson will hold water. Hopefully he can put this behind him and it will be smooth sailing from here.

FWIW - I am a huge fan of the show "Cops." I can't even tell you how many times the perp is physically resisting arrest while verbally saying things along the lines of, "I am cooperating, I'm not doing anything wrong," or "Why are you doing this?" This disconnect occurs even as they flail and kick officers as they try to get away. Nine times out of ten, the arrestee is under the influence.
I hear you GEMom. At the same time, I saw the disturbing video of the Philly police pulling those three punks from their car....while I understand the anger/frustration/difficulty of being a cop, beating the *hit out of people just isn't acceptable. Cops do cross the line too often and particularly with people of color....I'd be afraid if I were black and being taken away by police.

First - ronkas, isn't his name Cedric, like the entertainer??
Amy - I was thinking the same thing re: Philadelphia cops. I also told the kids that even though he looked pretty messed up in the mug shot, that I suspected pepper spray would have that same effect.
But I, too, recall (though vaguely) long days drinking in the sun on the water, and know that it does catch up with you. Also I know that one witness admitted she didn't so much "see" what was going on as hear it. That made me think of the "Cops" connection.
Also - According to the Tribune, blacks represented 2.2% of arrests on that lake in the past four years - whites 94%.
Maybe the cops noticed that everytime he brushed against someone, he fell down?
If they were Bears fans they would know that this is how Benson rolls, both on & off the field.

I was going to get all upset about the racial aspects of this story and tie it together with the Rev. Wright thread, until I read this from Yoss and I laughed my a** off. So, the lesson here is that humor can diffuse anger! Well done!
Personally I tend to think the river cops will end up looking bad on this one. I was listening to some of the knuckleheads on WSCR and they had a pretty good point that Benson going nuts on the cops is very unlike his typical demeanor. He's a relatively quiet guy, not an in-your-face roid rage type that you see in locker rooms, particularly NFL locker rooms. But he doesn't come across as someone who would get physically violent. I get that sense too from seeing him speak in interviews.
Of course, it's possible that he's a "bad drunk". I knew some guys like that in college. But I tend to doubt it.
