With starting left guard Chris Stewart gone to graduation following this season, an opening exists on the 2011 offensive line.
Sophomore Chris Watt would figure to be the logical choice to replace Stewart, having seen spot duty this season, including entering the Army game when Stewart briefly left with an injury.
“Coming into the year I expected to compete, and I kind of felt like in football, everything you get is earned,” Watt said. “I believe that I earned my way into getting playing time this year. I'm going to keep doing that.”
A Boston College defender apparently felt that Watt earned a welcome to college football during the Oct. 2 Irish victory. The opponent, whom Watt did not name, got in Watt's face after a play.
“That was a little bit of a change from high school,” Watt said with a smile. “No one really did that to me.”
The message?
“I don't really remember. It wasn't nice,” Watt said. “I kind of smiled and went on to the next play.”
