FYI - We stored a car at Gearhead over the winter a few years back. They were very reasonable.

Fan-So you actually still have the car, it's just in storage? I know a mechanic who lives in Wheaton who loves working on Chevelles, let me know if you ever get around to trying to get it running again, I can reach out to him.
In high school, I had a friend who also went to Fremd who had the same except in a dark green. I had a 1971 Firebird, base model. I upgraded the speakers and installed a Craig Powerplay 8 track player. Carpe Diem |

I do. Funny thing - the Chevelle was originally dark metallic green with a black rag top. It had the original 307 in it. After we dropped in the new engine, shifter and transmission, my Dad crashed it...so after the body work, we painted it red. While my friends had muscle cars (including one with a sweet Chevelle) I drove this:
Yea it was small, but it was fun to drive!! Mine was British Racing Green like the pic. True story… My friends used to get a kick out of picking up my car and hiding it. On one my first dates with my wife, my friends picked up my car and wedged it sideways between two cars. It took me a good half hour of maneuvering to get it out of the spot. Thank God I got her home in time or my future Father In-Law would have had my _____. Another time I found it on top of the hill in front of GBW. |

Hey I had a car like that, same color, same tan leather upholstry. It was so much fun, but my kid trashed it.

That's really not an accurate statement. You gave me the car and then I trashed it. |

Back to the Indy 500.
Hey Gus, do all the cars use Honda engines? Carpe Diem |

The RPM differences between the cars is amazing.
I miss going to the autobahn. Now that I spend even less than half my time in GE I get there less and less. |

The biggest diff between an IRL car and F1 is ground effects. IRL still is designed with a GE chassis while an F1 chassis is flat bottomed. This leads to the incredible cornering speeds at an oval for an IRL car. F1 chose to take away downforce to slow the cars down coupled with grooved tires. IRL went the engine route and de-tuned the engines. CART cars last year were pushing 750 hp with plans to go to 850 hp if the series continued this year.
Still miss the turbo age of Indy. Toyota and Honda dropped out of the IRL due to the feud between CART and IRL and declining TV ratings. Honda would love to compete against other engine manufacturers. It raises performance. |

Watching an F1 car accelerate out of a turn is one of the most impressive things I have seen in motorsports. Coupled with the screaming high RPMs as the cars converge into the first turn (especially when they were at Indy) made for an incredible experience.

Dear Half: couldn't agree with you more. Especially loved the music of the McClaren/Mercedes motors some years ago. The song they sing is incredible. True thouroughbreds.
BTW, heard that NASCAR costs are getting out of control, sort of like F1. Drivers salaries in Nascar are approaching upwards of 20-30 million for guys like Gordon, Stewart, etc. Now truly a series of haves vs have nots. Tony George has turned Indy Car racing into another goober series by engineering parity into the system. Makes for close racing on ovals but very dangerous with an open wheel car. |

Can-Am. That was the last real racing in North America. I would have given anything to have driven a season and raced one at Watkins Glen . |

Ahhhh Jombl, those were the good old days!
Actually looking for a McLaren M8F to go Vintage racing. What kind of car in Can Am did you like? The big block Chevy's stuffed in a Lola, McLaren, or Chapparal?? Or did you like the Porsche 917/10 or 30 series? Those days were special: 1960-1970. F5000 series wasn't bad either. |

I am going to miss having the F1 at Indianapolis this year. And, I can't make it to any other F1, either. The first year in over a decade that I won't be going to one of the races. Luckily, I will get to Watkins Glen, Barber and, maybe, VIR for some other races.

I have to admit the Big-Blocks epitomize real Can-Am racing, that was probably really what made it special before the technology budgets exploded - more of a "race what you brought", which is what it was all about before it collapsed.
You better keep the M8F locked up. Also I think the car I linked to under the period earlier had terrible livery... |
