Former Park District Employee "saved" a bit of history

I question whether he was ordered to get rid of the stone and why he held onto it for so long to the exclusion of the rest of us. I'm not convinced his intentions were so honorable.

What part of "no" don't you understand?

Odd story...especially given that the GEHS has been around for as long as I remember living here.

The story as reported works for me. I walked thru Memorial Park to Glenbard every school day in the early 60s, and played a lot of tennis on those old courts. Never saw the stone memorial, so ”buried face down near the tracks“ makes a lot of sense.

And back then the Historical Society had no interest in any G.E. history other than that of Stacy's Tavern. —Ted E.

There is a picture of the stone, unsure of year, on page 181 in the Glen Ellyn yearbook/rememberance. Odd where the picture may be taken either -could be someone's yard, could be an old photo. It's crooked. (the marker, not the story)

How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year,
Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.
