This year, Glen Ellyn turns 175 years old, and The Glen Ellyn News will publish a special commemorative section to honor our Village. But they need our memories!
They’re calling on current and former residents to share favorite stories and photos of life in Glen Ellyn. The paper will publish submissions in the special section, which will be available in July in print and online.
They want this unique keepsake to honor Glen Ellyn — where it has been and who its people are. They're depending on us to help tell the village’s story!
What’s your best memory of yesteryear’s Glen Ellyn? Do you have a picture that represents what it was like when you were growing up?
Wow! Look at all that parking and those wonderful signs! Hey, I have a great idea, lets get rid of all that parking and make it parallel then we could put a bus stop and taxi stand to take up some more parking!
You know, a black and white print job in the Glen Ellyn News is nice way to commemorate Glen Ellyn and I'll be sure to read all about it. But, what would really turn me on is a real-life commememoritve tribute to Glen Ellyn that somehow attempts to re-invent that photo above (top most).
Why not coordinate a vintage car night (one night only) during the summer? Park the cars, just like in that photo, play a movie that would be commemorative of that era, call Union Pacific and see if they could roll in a steam locomotive, rent a horse drawn carriage. Do something for Christ's sake!
I am sorry to say, but this town is boring and lacks any creative imagination. As a result, time just keeps passing us by as well as opportunties.
I am ready for a throw down....I'll cook some shoulder, ribs, chicken, brisket....you name it....I can see it now...nice fall day at Lake Ellyn, West Playing football in the background...smell of hickory in the air...baggo tournament going on...Weee, sounds like fun to me!!!

I am all in favor of a BBQ contest! Lets Do it.... I have been a part of a couple contests and it has always been a great time!
