I think they should close the library, and the Directors and Library Boards, current and past can hold car washes and bake sales until they earn the 3 Million to pay for the damages that were neglected on their watch. Hold them accountable! We can support our economy by frequenting bookstores and reading to our own kids.
Anyone been in the library lately? Looks like the've had some more ceiling problems on the 2d floor. They've got some space blocked off and some dehumidifiers going.
That's prime vagrant snoozing area. I hope they found an alternate area of the building to use. The soothing drone of the fans undoubtedly helps them slip effortlessly into dreamland.

Unnecessary, repetitive and redundant quote removed. --Ted E.
Friday night around 6:00 pm the alarms went off, GEVFD arrived to find that because of the recent cold weather, and then the warming of Friday, water pipes had burst in the ceiling and water was running down the walls. Servicemaster was there cleaning over the weekend. Now one might ask why a 14-year old building would have such problems. That is the $3 million dollar question.

An article from San Diego showed up in my google news page in regards to our library. It says, "To build an endowment for the benefit of future generations, the Glen Ellyn Public Library in Illinois offers naming rights for bookshelf end panels ($2,500), small study rooms ($25,000) and all the way up to naming the building for $5 million."
Are we really doing this? I know someone suggested it at a meeting.
I never bought into the week-kneed argument that it was "too late" to do anything re: $$$ recovery. If the architect/builder had screw-up insurance, how could there possibly be a statute of limitations?

I had some lamb chops with roasted roof leeks the other day.
Not certain if there is a statute of limitations with aspect to errors and omissions. I believe, or so I am told, that builders and architects carry E & O insurance.
Frankly, it seemed too easy to just open up the wallet and pay this on our own.

I thought the architect was out of business and that there were allegations that the contractor was instructed to cut corners to save the budget. Plus there's the inspection process. Whole lot of costly finger pointing here.
"The system has received about $600,000 in settlements from architects and contractors for the projects. It fixed the leaks at four schools last summer."
