I was the library website just now and noticed This Notice which was released last November. Here's a snippet:
quote:
Your name, carved in stone, on the library? Just $5 million.
The Glen Ellyn Library Foundation (Foundation) plans to follow the lead of other area libraries in initiating a “naming” program. In exchange for donations of $2500 and up, donors will qualify to have their names, or those of loved ones, affixed to carrels, specific rooms or the building itself. A new brochure, describing giving opportunities, ($2500 for a carrel, $1million for the main reading room and $5million to name the building), is now available at the library’s main desk.
The purpose of the Foundation is to amass a significant amount of money, whose annual earnings would be used to fund additional innovative community outreach programs, not possible with current property tax revenues alone
While I don't really mind naming rooms or carrels (a.k.a. individual study table - I looked it up), I'm not sure I like the idea of Joe Blow's name carved into the building wall. If it were some great Glen Ellynite, I guess that would be OK, but opening it up to anyone with cash seems a little commercial.
Ted, it says the Foundation was established in 1998, can you shed any light on this issue?
