My 12 year old daughter got some nice pants from her favorite store for Christmas unfortunately they are regular length and she needs short. (No gift receipt) Where can I bring these to get them hemmed? and what will it cost? She doesn't mind wearing them 6 inches too long but it drives me nuts...especially after several wears when they are nicely frayed and she doesn't want to cut off the tattered scrappy mess.

Take them back to the store where they were purchased and tell them about the no gift receipt. I am sure that they will allow you to exchange them. Most stores will tell you "no problem."

Tried doing an even exchange yesterday- nothing available in a 5/6 short- they said it was a very popular size and they frequently sell out of it.

Isn't that tailor on Pennsylvania still there, across from the fire station??? Prehop Cleaners on Finley in Lombard (1/2 block south from Roosevelt on the West side of Finley...sort of behind Dania Furniture)has a great tailor.

Most cleaners will do hemming and small repairs. My friend doesn't sew and uses the cleaners next to the Jewel at Market Plaza. She's been very satisfied.

I have had good results with Hawthorne Cleaners, next to Binnys. I need to have everything shortened and they do good work.

Have to second the vote for the tailor on Duane next to the spa...just west of Main street. Hubby had a few items done there. They were fast, reasonably priced, and easy to work with. If the cleaners don't work out, I would definitely try this place. (Wish I could remember the name of it.)

To answer your question about the guy on Roosevelt - yes, the place is called Ahsew. He did a great job with several pairs of pants, and the price was great. Nice guy, kind of quirky - but sweet.
