Is there anyone around town any of you might recommend? Not looking to spend a gazillion bucks or anything, just want good quality at a semi low price. Is this too much to ask for?

So....the rugrats need a new medium upon which to ply their artistic skills?

I'm a step ahead you my cold blooded friend. I don't plan on getting full length drapes, but rather roman-like shades which will be kept drawn up and out of reach for the most part. It's only when me and the Mrs. decide to bang in the living room (which is quite often because I am such a STUD) that they may pulled down. Smile

Bitterboy, there aren't too many places that you can use Bang and the Mrs in that context. I never thought I would see that on this bb, but that was some funny ****.......I hope mrs bitter or mrs bitters girlfriends don't read this, because you will be retracting that somehow......good stuff....

A quick and cheap fix, for those times when the spirit moves you, tape newspaper over the windows. Remove when no longer needed. This trick can be used as often as necessary. No need to spend the extra money.

I learned many years ago to block out all such thoughts. Besides I'm convinced that I was adopted.

try the local "budget blinds" guy (send an email at the budget blinds website and the local franchise owner will call you)...i think he's pretty resonable. then use JClicht to compare (they do a good job too!)

and yes, that IS the quote of the year. i get more laughs out of the REALLY talented writers here than any where else on the web!

LIGHTEN UP!!!!!!! The only thing I actually ever used newspapers for was to housebreak a new puppy. However that didn't last very long as I was also housebreaking a kid and he kept getting confused. We got rid of the dog. Do you think I made a mistake?

The kid (and dog) wouldn't have been confused if the newspaper was on the floor and not the windows.

I'm not at all sure window treatments are necessary, as I fear the most fleeting glimpse of bb in the altogether would be sufficient to cause any curious passersby to quickly avert their gaze to avoid imminent blindness.

Seriously Bitterboy, if you have standard sized windows try Pottery Barn. They have really cool window treatments.

Pottery Barn, Country Curtains (closest location is in Naperville, but they have a catalog & website), Calico Corners in Hinsdale (that's where I'd go for custom - they have so many fabrics to choose from - but be prepared to pay $$$ This is where I miss Tiddlywinks and Scallywags; I had the only custom window treatments in my house done there, and it wasn't nearly as expensive as if I'd had them done at Calico Corners).

For just plain ol' blinds and shades, JC Penney isn't bad. Plain vanilla, but not too expensive. Ikea, too, can be servicable - but make sure you measure well because their sizes are kind of crazy.
