I drive by Fox Valley motors at least once a week-great minds think alike.

I agree about Luxury Motors, what a group of creeps. I do a lot of homework beore buying a car and I get insulted when they try to b. s. me about cars.

And why do they play that crappy club music there? You walk in and wonder if you have to pay a $5 cover charge to Akmed the bouncer.

The cars LM gets are from auctions. These cars are the ones the reputable, name brand dealerships don't want. I've looked at a number of them and I can see why.

Always seems like their cars are new or close to new. What the hell could happen to them in that short a time period? And which auction do they come from? They gotta have lots and lots of factory warranty left on them.

If I'm buying a used BMW...I'll be buying a CPO car from the manufacturer.

I'm guessing a lot of these are either coming off leases or repossessions. Repo's would explain the poor shape some of these newer cars are in.

We are actually looking at a 2003 Boxster with 19,000 miles tonight, this one is a private seller and the carfax looks really good.

Brother of IMJ runs a very large Auto Auction in our area and he doesn't take any cars to run through his auction from LM. He will sell to them, but he will not take their cars......

You guys have good instincts.....I was looking at a BMW at LM before I bought the Acura and he told me to stop looking there. That is when he set me up with his guy a McGrath.......He called the place the puppy mill of auto dealers in our area.....

LM sales people are pathetic, cars aren't much better. I never wanted to get out of a dealership as badly as I did at LM. They tried to "valet" park my car and hold on to my keys, in case they needed to move my car. I told the kid no way was he getting my keys. Overall, just a really irritating experience at LM.

I'll fill you in off the record. However, they are the largest Bentley dealer in the USA I believe. They just got a Lambo franchise in the city too. They did get investigated for some type of alleged fraud by the state as reported by Crain's, but nothing ever came of it. The guy who owns it is Joe Abbas and as far as I know, an OK reputation though I have heard of horror stories about clouded titles, etc. They just bought the old M Benz dist center of off 294 North. You can see it as you approach O'hare. Joe has several backers, financially. He started out as a used car dealer and went up from there. Very successful to this point.

Lots of cars come from auctions. One of the best is Manheim in Pennsylvania. Lots of dealers go there to score cars of various types. Never know what you'll find. He has tons of SL Benz's which they sell like hot cakes in the summertime. There is more money in used than new I can attest.

Yoss, they have ZERO parking space at Luxury/Downers. But I can't blame you about handing your baby over to someone else. I had a nice car parked there and one of their employees we leaning against it. Needless to say, I went ballistic. I and my family have a real issue with people touching cars. I almost pulled my kids finger nails off whey they did some creative art on the painted finish of my car. Needless to say, they never did it again.

We all say that a REAL nice sportscar is like a mistress. They are beautiful, expensive to maintain, and you can't take them out in public!

I just saw a post about a guy from out of state that put a $1000 deposit on a car at LM and was going to come into town to purchase it. Luckily, he got the VIN prior to his visit and contacted a dealer and found out that the car recently had $14,000 worth of collision repair. When he called and told his saleman at LM the salesman indicated that he couldn't have the car anyway since it was just sold (hmmmm...what was the deposit for??).

You know, Gus...I never physically touched any paint on that car...the one that I was interested in. Never touch the paint on anybody elses car. Ever.

What would draw someone to touch the paint on any car?

I'm like you, I tend to park my car farther out in parking lots in an attempt to avoid door dings. And no, I'm not one of those d**ks who parks diagonally and takes up two spots. Mad

We've found a 2001 red TT roadster with 43,000 miles and the car looks be in in great shape. The Carfax looks good and the drivetrain seems to be fine. There is some noise coming from the brakes, so the dealer is letting me take it to Schaumburg Audi to get it inspected on Friday.

This dealer, Land Rover of Hoffman Estates has been a real pleasure to work with. The salesman offered to let me have the car for a day to get it checked out. This store is professional and no pressure, the exact opposite of LM, I would highly recommend this dealership if you are looking for a Land Rover.

Sounds like this dealer knows how to set the hook. Every time a dealer lets me take a car for the day or so, I buy it. Exellent tactic!

Look into getting an extende warranty or have the car "certified" which means new tires and an extra warranty to boot. Good insurance if you are going to keep the car for a while.

My credit union (Alliant) offers a warranty program when you finance with them, so were looking into that. I actually won't be touching the car, Land Rover is taking the car over to Audi for the inspection, I'm just paying for it. The car already has new tires, so that's one thing we don't need to worry about.

Love you like a 5' 8" lacrosse playing brother, Yoss (see you Saturday)...so I need to tell you that I have have owned 3 relatively current Audis and 3 VWs in my life and I would never wish an Audi without a warranty in the glove box on my best enemy. Just one man's opinion...take it for what it is worth.

Just spoke with the credit union, they have different levels of warranties, we will probably go for the comprehensive one for about $2,000. We'v owned three Audi's and they have been problem free, but I've seen the reliability reports on the TT and Clam you are correct, no warranty would not be a good move. Even with buying the warranty, we are still well under the budget we set aside.
