I was told I need to replace my transmission on my 1999Honda Accord, I have 148k mikes on it. I'd like to find a place that would not charge me an arm & a leg. Honda dealer in Lisle says 3500.00 - 3800.00 OUCH. I thought maybe I could find a cheaper place.

Trannies ain't cheap. And you'll almost certainly have to accept a rebuilt transmission. Once a vehicle is 3-4 years old, they no longer stock brand-new transmissions as replacement parts. Just too expensive.
I had to replace the trans on a 1997 Chrysler mini-van a few years ago [since gotten rid of that old boat] and a rebuilt transmission, installed with a 12-month warranty cost me about $3,200, including tow.
I shopped around and the differences in price weren't significant once towing was factored in.
