My mother's last recital as a piano teacher is tomorrow- 60 years she taught on the north shore and she's quitting at 81! My father tuned pianos in retirement for decades but at 82 his hearing won't allow it. Need our piano tuned- anyone know a good local piano tuner?
Tom can also do repairs on your piano innards if needed. Also, ask him for an appraisal of what your piano is worth on the used-market.
Even if you have no plans to sell it, it's nice to have an idea of its current value.
I was mildly surprised what my [inherited] 1960-vintage Baldwin Acorsonic [spinet] is worth - a few hundred more than when it was brand-new. Considering inflation, that's pretty amazing.
Thank you. We just got back from the recital. My parents live in the independent living part of Luther Village in Arlington Heights which is where she holds her recitals. Besides student families lots of seniors watched the last recital plus it was closed circuit televised into the rooms of those who are disabled. She still taught about 15 students but couldn't keep up anymore with the outside activities- a good teacher has their student participate in judged performances, contests, etc- lots or work beyond just the weekly lesson. It's going to be a hard transition for her at 81. Piano teaching and music was her life since a teenager. 2 parents pleaded that she still teach their kids next year and she relinquished, which I think is a good thing. The parents have been sworn to secrecy though.
