I am looking for a photographer who has a wide portfolio of scenic shots fo the entire Chicagoland area (Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Counties).
Would prefer one that deals mainly in digital imaging. One that is open to photo release for use in mass quantity (1000+) publishing. The photographer we have been using is from Northern California and his selection is good but is not exactly meeting our needs right now. |

Here's one my daughter took with our 1975 polaroid.

Fish, that photo is better than anything I have done.
SoxFan, I have used good cameras and crappy. Makes no difference! I must be the problem. My office is full of photos. People compliment me all the time. Maybe I should tell them I buy them at art shows. Do you do any of those shows? I was at the Old Town one last week. Too hot to carry things but I wish I would have bought a couple more. |

I will probably be in a few next year. To late this year to get into most.

I shot with it for about 30 minutes, mostly macro stuff. Okay light, it performed much better compared to my 30d. We then took it out at 9:45 PM in an area in the Arboretum with no light and took a 15 second exposure at ISO 6400 of a flower while the camera sat on a brick wall while I shot my 30d at the same settings except at ISO 1250 and a longer exposure, and the image out of the Mark III had no noise while my 30d had visible noise. The autofocus thing will be fixed, I have heard via a recall. The instructor that brought it in for me to check out wasn't too worried since he does mostly nature (99.9%) and uses manual focus mostly.
Canon 5d Mark II by October? Canon Mark whatever at 22 megapixel by Feb 08? |

Other way around. 5DII in early '08, and 1DsIII fall '07. Add to that... 40D late August or early Sept. '07. |

Fantastic camera, in all respects. I know several who have that one. Can never argue with double the resolution, along with the extra control. Any 1D (anything) makes for a happy camera bag. Only thing on the downside is the weight carrying that brick around (unless the 30D is your carry-around body and the 1Ds is the studio/special use cam). I have a feeling the 1DsIII, when available, will be beyond everyone's lens resolutions, hence the persistant chatter about a possible new line of lenses beyond the L's (LX?). Even the new 50 1.2 won't cut the mustard if a 24x36 sensor goes beyond ~20MP (and it will... 22MP). As is, 16MP is so very near to the upper limit in lines/res. A sure thing is Canon reducing the space between the photo sites ala the 400D & 1DIII, but when they get to 22MP they'll run out of room for good. I do hope Canon is responsive to the reported AI focus issues on the new 1DIII. Especially since the new focus screen elements and internals will no doubt be inherited on subsequent 1-series and 5DII cams. Should be interesting how they respond - or don't. My guess is a very quiet firmware update to add some almost useless language capability to the III and then sneaking in a focus patch with the payload. You were lucky to have tried out the new mkIII. Very envious. |

weight is not an issue for me. I have a backpack that has 4 lenses, a 30d with battery grip, 2 flashes, 1 mini tripod, and another 3-4 pounds of accessories that I carry at all times. Ask GE Fan, it is on me when I leave in the morning, and with me when I come back. the 1Ds Mark II will add nothing to the 18 pounds I hall around now, it will just add megapixels! Friends at work call me the hunchback photographer because they never see me without the backpack on. Maybe in 10 years when I am in for back surgery again it will matter.
Can you imagine the prices of the new lens line if there is one? You got a 400 prime lens going for $5000 now, what next? Most expensive hobby I have ever had. I gave up golf because the price of a round and the clubs went through the roof, what the hell was I thinking??? |
