I know I've commented many times about college admissions and planning for seniors and I know a couple of parents out there have talked with their kids about options after high school besides college. So, if you have a senior - or even a junior who is thinking about doing a "Gap" year, you (and your student) may want to check this out:
It's SUPER SATURDAY ... ... at the CHICAGOLAND GAP YEAR FAIR! What is a "gap year"? It's an opportunity of a lifetime! Students in the UK, Australia, and Canada commonly take time off between high school and college to gain real- life experiences through travel, language immersion, community and conservation service programs, outdoor adventure, and professional internships. Now, US students are catching on to the awesome advantages of a gap year. Learn glass blowing in Massachusetts, study Italian in Siena, film a documentary in New Orleans, investigate the Maya heritage in Guatemala, ride the whitewater in Colorado and much, more. This Saturday, encourage your students to explore an exciting range of gap year opportunities at the Chicagoland Gap Year Fair. WHEN? 1:00 to 4:00 PM · Saturday, February 2, 2008 WHERE? New Trier High School 385 Winnetka Avenue Winnetka, IL PROGRAMS? Speak with representatives from Dynamy Internship Year, GlobalQuest, City Year, Outward Bound, The Woolman Semester, Bridgton Academy, Sojourns Abroad, The Center for Interim Programs, El Casal, Center for Cultural Interchange, The Gap-Year Advantage, Up with People, Brown Ledge Gap Year and Magic Carpet Rides. Amy, you should delete the other thread you started with the same name.
Where is TA? I gave up coffee (day 10, first 4 days had a constant headache) but can't give this up. I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac. I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog. |

I miss t.a., too. There no one to engage in a debate on the use of averse vs. adverse, for example.

I e-communicated with his yesterday and he didn't wish me well. That *******. I can't believe he is giving up this board and all of the great perks it provides. I mean, where else can you meet someone who you can call at the crack of dawn to ask if you can borrow their brand new HD video-camera for long distance travel? Where else? And who would be dumb enough to say yes? "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |

I'll have to go find it...my computer has been very, very naughty lately. I hope TA will come back. I like him. "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. " -Bertrand Russell V. Delong |

I have a feeling TA thinks we are not smart enough for him. I think he's right.
