I received a letter today from Glenbard West High School. It informed me that my daughter has at least 10 consecutive days of unexplained absences and as a result they are dropping her from their rolls. Not sure how a student who never enrolled could be absent, but that's fine. It went on to say that if she is observed on campus "police will be called and criminal charges will be filed against his/her." Interesting.

The letter went on to define the campus boundaries. The east to west campus boundaries ran from Lake Road to Park Boulevard. The north to south boundaries ran from Crescent Boulevard to the south shore of Lake Ellyn by foot path. The campus also included certain parking lots and "the main parking lots on Ellyn Avenue and the West of the former Glen Ellyn Public Library, now District Administrative Center." Ignoring the glaring grammatical errors and the hollow threat of arrest, I think there are 30 private residences that could arguably be "on campus" using their definition.

It gets better. The letter also went on to claim Lake Ellyn Park as being "on campus." The Park District needs to be informed that they no longer control Lake Ellyn Park.

Finally, the three signatories on the letter signed off by stating that "If you wish to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact me at 469-8600." Really?

Quite an embarrassing letter...glad my name isn't on it.

What part of "no" don't you understand?

nothing funny here. "police will be called?" bad grammar? refering to the former public library?
for what they're paid some proofreading would be nice.

No wonder you moved out of the district, Fish. Glenbard Education Association members that cannot read, nor write. Is it surprising?

Since my house seems to be on campus, is there a small possibility that the RE taxes that I have paid will be refunded . . . with interest?

from the GBW website re: tonight's open house:

"Also available for visiting are some of the school’s outstanding services, such as the Elliott Library, the audio-visual lab and computer labs."

"also available for visiting?" HUH???

Back in my days at Maine South in coveted Park Ridge, we were forbidden from going across the street into the Cook County forest preserves before or after school and could be cited by police as well as get into trouble at school.

In theory, however, if you went home first and then went to the preserves, you were OK.
