The short story is that there is first a recount of some hand-picked precincts. If that shows anything odd, the matter can be pursued further. The recount is to happen 9AM on Thursday the 14th. Mr. Pydo selected two precincts in Northern GE to be recounted.

I remember asking an election judge if I had to put in a first name/initial or was the last name sufficient? They said to put in as much as I could.

I think that same confusion led me to vote for a guy named Smith for d41. Didn't know how to erase it.

The original results stand. The recount turned up a handful of questionable write-in ballots . . . but not enough to make up the 50-plus vote difference.

At the end of the day . . . union-endorsed write-in candidates Rich Heim and Bob Friend will be representing the citizens of District 87 for the next four years.

An initial burst of "independence" at their maiden Board meeting offered a glimmer of hope that perhaps a new day had dawned at Glenbard.

That possibility seems less likely after the special meeting at North on May 18 . . . and the "business as usual" results.

Over the course of the past two weeks, Heim and Friend were apparently shown the "error of their ways" . . . and quickly adapted their thinking to fall more into line with the prevailing administrative wind.

Monday night's performance left observers with the indelible impression that these two new Board members should prove to be worthy successors to the recently-departed Schmidt, Schuller and Brown.
