Chris McClain has been named assistant superintendent of business services in Glenbard Township High School District 87, effective July 1. The Board of Education approved his appointment March 10.

"I am excited to be joining Glenbard Township High School District 87,” McClain said. “The district has an exceptional reputation, with a community that supports and values education. I look forward to joining the organization and contributing to its success."

McClain was with Motorola, Inc. from 1979 to 2007, during which time he held numerous leadership positions in operations and finance with responsibilities for multi-million dollar operations and budgets. Most recently he was director of distribution operations in Schaumburg where he managed a supply chain team of 150 professionals responsible for planning, purchasing, production operations and process improvement. While with Motorola, McClain served in director level roles in program management, finance and global operations. He also served as vice president and general manager for a strategic business unit in the cellular division.

McClain was a Board of Education member in Grayslake Community High School District 127 from 1995 to 2007. He served as Board of Education president from 2000 to 2004. During his time on the board, McClain successfully negotiated interim superintendent contracts, a superintendent’s contract, and a 5-year contract with the Grayslake Education Association. He served in a key leadership position as chairman of the following: Committee of the Whole, Finance Committee, Negotiations Committee, Boundary Committee, and Superintendent Selection Committee. He also served on the Curriculum Committee and Building and Grounds Committee.

Superintendent Mike Meissen said, “We are pleased that Chris McClain will be joining our leadership team and we believe he has an exceptional background to serve as our Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. His experience in the business setting in accounting and finance and background as a School Board member with Grayslake Community High School District 127 will provide a valuable perspective in his leadership role. We are excited and confident about his ability to build upon the momentum of the past few years the Board of Education and community has established in improving the financial conditions of our School District.”

McClain earned an MBA from Loyola University in Chicago, a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and has a chief school business official endorsement.

Active in the community, McClain also was a member of the Illinois Association of School Boards, coached in Park District and American Youth Soccer Organization programs and was an internal chairman for the United Way campaign.

Thank goodness...I thought we were a little short on administrators...maybe we'll even get a better cell phone package by the new school year.

Considering the issues facing motorola last 5 years not sure if that's any type of accolade.

Just another 6 figure salary as far as I'm concerned. Lets hope it pays dividends.

If you go take a look at his resume on LinkedIn, it looks like he was mainly in the two-way radio business, which is fairly solid, as opposed to the handset business that gets all the negative press. It looks like his last few jobs consisted of wringing costs out of various businesses.

If that's the case, then the poor guy will have a monumental task at reducing the costs at the district. I wish him the best of luck and God's speed.

With the issues of the economy and the escalating tax burden on the people in this town, something will snap earlier than later is my prediction.

Well lets see this guy will get vested in what five, seven years. So he will have a pension from Motorola a pension from D87 and Social Security . Don't know how well he will do for D87 but I can safely predict that we will do very well for himself.

I don't know about the motorolla pension, but you cannot collect social security if you collect a TRS pension. Teachers who pay into social security by working second jobs or who have payed into social security before working as a teacher "donate" their social security contributions. I think that in order to collect from TRS you have to pay in for 15 or 20 years...perhaps Scotty knows for sure.
