This is only the beginning for school cuts. Many of the little extras that drove our property taxes through the roof will get cut, but I doubt we will ever see any tax relief.
Gotta pay for administrators and turf. That shizzle don't come free. I'll take a dozen+ assistant principals and turf over some run-of-the-mill teacher any day.

There is only one - UNO - way to get property tax relief: All of the pick-pockets on your tax bill [or a few of the Big Hitters] must ask for less money in their extension.
Considering how lockstep, hidebound they are with respect to - "we get what we asked for last year PLUS our tax cap allowed increase" - this is going to be a BRUTAL next few years for them.
Even if taxes actually go up as our EAVs plunge, this too has an eventual "Drop Dead" date.

Couldn't have said that better myself! They're supposed to be teaching our kids about prioritizing and time-management....way to lead by example!
Almost makes me want to home-school my kids. Ugh.
Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele
i'm ready. 300K extra for turf and she doesnt blink. and the way those well-paid adminstrators have jerked around the curriculum..see you at the april meeting. show up and be heard.

Don't worry. With the new turf and less teachers, the kids will have more time to spend honing their sport skills and become more well rounded. This will ensure that all the students are guaranteed to become elite athletes and all will get full ride scholarships to a D1 college, even if they can't read. Then on to the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, major league field hockey, softball, soccer, or lacrosse where they will all become overnight millionaires. They will all move back to GE and build big big big houses and spend tons of money at the downtown shops solving all of those problems. And we can erect a statue of the principal at the newly renamed Jane Park, and another at Mike Field, light em up like a used car lot and have all night training sessions for our future warriors, income streams. We will not have to worry about work because all of our health care will be covered by the government and with all of the money coming in from our athletes it should be enough to provide free food at the concession stands and the school will provide us GBW clothing compliments of the boosters, as they are excellent at raising money. You have to think outside the box on this one, it's not going to be as terrible as you think. Life will be good in our little corner of the new Idiocracy.
How many showed up for the games last year. Name me anything else that attracted anywhere near that level of attention or interest. I bet more people in GE went to a Hitter game than voted in the last Ref.
So Turf it is.
I want a school that our football team can be proud of.
I still remember when glenbard went on strike 12 years ago, and now they're gettin' laid off after being the highest paid district in the dupage county?

Fireworks, 4th of July parade, Xmas walk, Jazz Fest, carnival, Taste of GE and GBW graduation always draw more than any football game.
After the turf is installed anything less than a state championship every year is a total failure to achieve the objective.

I've wondered about this before - is the football team actually called the Hitters, or are the the Hilltoppers and Hitters is a nickname.
Always struck me as a little odd. Of couse, I came from an impoverished school system where the teams could only afford one name - and an insult to our aboriginal peoples at that!
Forget about twelve years ago. The last teacher contract in 07 erased District 87's 19 million deficit. Three years later and what happened to that savings? It did not just go for turf and more administrative jobs. Malcolm should be held accountable. So should Meissen and that business guy Maclane.
What's to expand on? Clearly there has been some unwise spending or there would not be 38 parttime &6 fulltime teachers being released plus support staff.
