We have received information that the Wheaton Police Department is investigating a reported child-abduction attempt.

The alleged incident occurred on Thursday, Oct 16. A female student from Wheaton North High School was riding her bike home from school around 4:00 p.m. when she was confronted by the suspect in his car in the area of Wakeman Ave. and Washington St. where he told her to get into his car. She continued to ride home.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, with a heavy accent, 20-25 years of age with a goatee, wearing a white, sleeveless t-shirt, with a tattoo on his right bicep. He was driving a small, four-door, black car of unknown make.

If you have any questions or information regarding this investigation, please call the Glen Ellyn Police Department at (630) 469-1187 or the Wheaton Police Department at (630) 260-2161.

This incident was reported in Wheaton, and there have been no such reports in Glen Ellyn at this time. However, please take this opportunity to talk to your child calmly about stranger danger. Even teens need to be reminded about safe practices. The TASK strategy is a good one to follow: Talk with your child about strangers and safety, and about specific ploys that may be used by strangers. Ask them what they heard you say, so you can correct any misunderstandings. Show them how to walk safely and how to safely ask for help. Make sure they Know who, when, and how to get help. Anytime you or your child sees or is aware of suspicious behavior, call 911 without hesitation.
