debate teams still exist, forensics/speech teams are completely different. most states call it speech. illinois calls it forensics. don't know why.

lol. . . try another book. . . or click one of the links above. there's knowledge to be had beyond one's high school yearbook. for instance, my yearbook probably has "girls sewing team" or some other antiquated throwback. . . obviously not a good source to locate something new/different at HS.

forensics is one of those "new" things. ninety-four kids the GW team -- mostly honors student types (like the debate team). not a particularly "known" activity unless you've got kids at GW.

From answers.com:
Forensics: The art or study of formal debate; argumentation.
The use of science and technology to investigate and establish facts in criminal or civil courts of law.

Congrats to the GBW team and the great showing. Good job! The two first for one kid is outstanding.

I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.

You'd think a kid that successful wouldn't have time for a Wii. My guess his parents put the kibosh on the deal.

I would think that the most successful "foresicators" communicate in a clear and concise manner. It is ironic that most don't know what "forensics" in a high school setting is...I suggest a name change.

[sigh] dog troubles, potts?

were it to be so easy as to simply blame the coach. . . instead, blame the nfl.

then go "forensicate" w/your neighbor about his dog. my money's on the 30-year-old angry attorney.

We took the kids to watch a few events. He didn't score the tourney, but just from eyeballing it, GW would have taken 1st or 2nd.

It is customary not to place and take a trophy at your own tournament. The host school wants to be gracious. They can also enter more speakers than normal to allow the novices more practice.

The team is very well coached!

Nobody was doubting the coaching of the Glenbard West Forensic team...it was an "inside joke."

I'll bet THAT coach can write some AWESOME e-mails.

I knew that was an inside joke - referring to your previous critique of the disappointing GW football loss...I remember.

Anyway, I will say that the forensics coach is fatastic though my freshman has not had him as a teacher and is not on the forensic team. However, I worked with him at York (his job before GW) and he is exceptionally talented.

Just had to offer my high praise.

Every time I think of that teacher - the West forensics coach - I hear Ozzy Osborne in my head. I didn't know the song, but my husband started singing it after our P/T conference last year. It is also on Guitar Hero 2. Now it won't stop playing when his name comes up!! Smile
