The recent cheating matter didn't seem to have made it into any of the papers, including the SchoolWeek rag. Don't see any mention of it on either the school or district websites. And my kids said no announcement was made at school.

Now I'm aware of the desire to respect the confidentiality of the individuals involved, and I acknowledge that some (not quite all) of my interest is mere curiosity. But I also wondered if it wouldn't be appropriate for the school to handle at least some aspects of this publicly? If for no reason other than to remind the entire student body of the potential results if they cheat and get caught?

I don't know. Just seems we get so much info from the schools about stuff I have absolutely no interest in. Including countless references to Character Counts! Whereas issues such as honors teachers re-using finals year after year, the breadth of a particular instance of cheating, and the manner in which the school responds, are of some interest to me.

BTW - absent any official notice, one of my kids told me they heard only a couple of kids were disciplined. 2, maybe 3. Thought they knew the names of 2 kids involved, but my kid wasn't in the math class involved. My kid was unaware whether the kids were expelled, disciplined, or what, and had no idea of whether other kids' grades were affected.

My other kid was completely oblivious, as I've come to expect... Wink

Way cool.
I guess I missed a vital link in the news chain, skipping from the Trib to the News and SchoolWeek. Shoulda searched DH on-line before posting.
Thanks.

Gee you think maybe if you didn't use scantron tests you wouldn't have these problems. Funny how that idea has never crossed anyones mind. It's also interesing that the school seems to realize that these tests are liable to be cheated on otherwise why check all these calculators. And then we get the "the pressure these kids must feel to cheat". Which of course must come from all those bad parents out there. So here are my solutions.

1. Get rid of the scantron tests entirely.
2. Get rid of mid-terms/finals realistically the kids need more class time not testing. Funny how the teachers main complaint about NCLB is the testing but when it comes to having tests that make their lives a little easier they are all for it.

My daughter has spent the last month without doing a class work thanks to both two weeks of Xmas break and two weeks of finals etc.

The math test incident was not a scantron. It was a free-response test. Why don't you check your sources before postin' on this forum

Thank you for the welcome sir. I'd say the same except that you were being sarcastic and being quite impolite towards me.

Did you videotape that little animation of yourself hitting your head against the wall repeatedly? Very clever
