A fish rots from the head down. If the Sup really doesn't give a S*** why should the people under his supervision feel any differently?

Quote from Principal McBride: "It will be hard to transition but I'm very excited about the opportunity and responsibility that District 204 has empowered me with." This man is an English major and is Masters prepared from Harvard School of Education. My questions: When did transition become a verb? Are you empowered with opportunity and responsibility? Can his remedial writing instructor at Glenbard East please proof his PR fluff statements?

It is called educationese.
I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.

Perhaps he was misquoted, Because there is no way an educator would say that. No way.

I just looked this up in a dictionary, and it turns out transition is both a noun and verb.

I have heard the man speak at one or two board meetings. I'm not from East but I do think he will be a loss. As for the opportunity and responsibility, I think there are times people/kids do not understand they have opportunities. To empower them is to help them realize they can take responbility in a situation. I look at it as preparing them for the adult world. I am not Bob Mc Bride nor do I claim to know what goes on in his mind. I just remember about 15 years ago "empower" was the buzz word along with town meetings where I lived.

We stand corrected. Thank you, Crescent.

Allow me to put on my Amy hat. Transition should not be a verb. I think it got to be a verb the same year that effort became a verb. I can hear the play by play now: "Savard transitions the puck across the blue line, and efforts the puck in the goal! How empowering!" I hate educationese, which is one level of hell lower than corporatespeak. Don't even get me started on my own profession.

I get the idea ronkas was just being sarcastic about effort being a verb, but I just looked the word up in a dictionary, anyway. It's only a noun, not a verb.

Dear Howdy: a self induced heimlech comes in handy when swallowing a fish bone. Or a politicians BS. Whichever comes first.

ronkas, should I be laughing at the fact that you put on "my hat" or should I be insulted???

Never insult a woman. It's too uncomfortable. Even Hillary.

Monaghan has always impressed me as a decent guy. But MAN I would have loved how they explained the award-worthy trustworthiness of Meissen trying to flee a job during the term of your contract. TOO! DARN! FUNNY!
