Teachers told me that Humanities AP, a senior-level course, is also being cut from the Social Studies curriculum, possibly as soon as next year. How's that for adding more rigor to our children's education?
Humanities is an Honors course, not AP. One of my kids took it and it was a wonderful course. The long-time teacher of that course retired at the end of last year. It would be a shame if that class was cut.
That was one class that had a real impact on one of my sons - the artistic one, naturally. But they did wonderful things; took the train into the city to go to the Art Institute, Lyric Opera, Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It was his favorite class at West, by far.
Again - why do the arts always get screwed? It's so frustrating.
Yes Gus, I would like to hear your explanation of that as well?
Scribbler, it's the arts that always get screwed because they're not viewed by society as necessary in life. And yet somehow, spewing rhetoric from a textbook is a much more "useful" life skill than developing a passion for something.
I realize that fundage is tight....but perhaps if it were managed better and doled out the way the parental majority wanted it to be, things wouldn't be so bad in the intellectual development area.
You have my full support tonight, Howdy....go get 'em!

Haha, I'm sure it's a made-up word....though I can't take credit for it. It's been spewing from my lips for years and I'm sure I picked it up from other friends. Glad you enjoy it, though

Your weekend posts make more sense then your weekday posts.
I apologize then for any "jumping the gun" on that.
Please elaborate, though, how it is that I don't post on weekends and it's a compliment that those non-existent posts make more sense than my weekday posts?
