I was going to post that story.... here it is... under the "no longer news banner". But when the idiocy hits this close to home, it makes for fun reading. Don't get me wrong, when we were kids, we did the same stuff. We just weren't stupid enough to advertise it. We were a smarter generation.

Regarding the homeowner, I won't convict her based on a 125 word story in the paper. Frankly, I have no idea how you could not know what is going on in your own house when there are a bunch of kids in it. I'll just say that that will not be an issue in my household.

When will kids ever learn that digital cameras and the internet are a lethal combination?

We expect teens to make stupid choices now and then but we usually expectd adults to show better judgement. That said, I'll do everything in my power as a parent to keep my kids from making those stupid choices...and pray....and cross my fingers....and rub a rabbit's foot....and find a four leaf clover....you get the idea.

In my day, we were much more discreet in out stupidity. That's what kiddies need to learn. . . discretion.

I’m hoping my kids don’t learn too much about discretion until they move out of the house. Right now checking up on them is easy. I even have a Facebook account so I can check up on our oldest. Our agreement is I can go on her page anytime I like as long as I leave no trace.

I always want to post something hideously dorky on it.

Maybe my latest pic would be nice!

When my daughter is showing me her account and the accounts of her friends it is very apparent that many parents don't ever look at their kids accounts or discuss the appropriateness of the contents.

It's been a while since I was in high school, but how about a class on things that will really help you in life: balancing a check book, painting a window, hiring a financial planner, etc. That class should also discuss the implications of your future boss or college Googling your name. Stuff on the internet just doesn't go away. It's too bad these kids will have to find that out the hard way.

As a matter of fact, there is a class that all 4 Glenbards offer (it is state mandated for graduation) called Consumer Management. This course covers everything from balancing your checkbook, purchasing a car, putting down a mortgage, budgeting an apartment, planning for college/a career, filing your taxes, etc. When I took the course we were informed about the internet too and risks associated with what you put on there. It was very well taught, some students don't "take in" the information unfortunately. The only thing I did not learn how to do was paint a window, but I'm pretty sure if I painted a window I would not be able to see out of it. :-p

I wouldn't put blame on the school for this, no matter how top-notch our education is some people are just not willing to be responsible.

Hey Red, I like your spunk, but every generation thinks they are the smarter generation....you will see that when your kids are in high school....It is cyclical.....
