Does anyone have any information about this program at West? My eighth grade daughter came home and said her counselor told her she had been nominated for it. She had to miss the meeting when they went over what it is and seems confused by the information she is getting second hand.
Hi! you need to call the guidance office at west (just call 469-8600 and ask for guidance department.) the secretary is very helpful and they'll send you in the right direction. welcome to high school...it's a roller coaster!
Here is the description of Target Success in the Castle Keys:
quote:
Target Success/G-Teens Target Success/G-Teens is a Big Brother/Big Sister Program. Incoming freshmen are matched with juniors and seniors who function as a supportive friend and positive peer. They are involved in a variety of activities during the school year - i.e., camping, gym nights, and picnics. The purpose of the program is to encourage leadership potential as well as provide a support transition from the junior high school to the more autonomous and independent function of a high school student. Incoming freshmen begin the program in June of the eighth grade year. Any parent who has a student entering GWHS and would like them to participate should contact Mr. Liechty in the spring of eighth grade.
My daughter didn't join but I've heard good things about it. Sorry I can't give you more specifics.

My daughter participated her Freshman year...all in all it was a very positive experience. The retreat to Lake Geneva was a nice way to inaugurate the 9th graders to high school. I'd strongly recommend your child take advantage of the nomination and send in the paperwork!
Thank you for all of the information. It sounds like a great way to adjust to a new school and all of the stress. I will definitely encourage her to do it.
