Rich Caramel Brownies
1 pkg Betty Crocker® German Chocolate Cake Mix 1 can evaporated milk (5oz if you can find it) 2/3 C butter (or 11 TBL if you're using sticks) 12 oz (or less, eyeball it) chocolate morsels 14 oz bag caramels, the kind that are easy to open would be great! (or less, about 40, again eyeball it) Grease 9 x 13 pan, all sides. 350° oven. Mix cake mix, 1/3 C. evaporated milk, 2/3 C melted butter. Blend. Place ½ the batter in 9 x 13 pan. Kinda plop in middle and smooth gently towards sides with back of spoon or with clean fingers. Don’t worry about making complete coverage, as the batter heats up it will spread. Then bake this bottom part for 8-9 minutes at 350°. Meanwhile, melt unwrapped caramels & 1/3 C evaporated milk. Try a double boiler or melt slowly in microwave in 30 sec. Intervals. Remove pan from oven and top with chocolate morsel, (toss on by hand, don’t need to use whole bag!), drizzle melted caramel mixture, again probably don’t need to use the whole mixture as it will be too rich. Then use your hands and take remaining cake mix mixtures from your bowl (the cake mix by now may look like brown play doh) and “place” the rest gently covering the brown coating. It does not go far! Bake for about 20 minutes. Cool ½ hour. May be stiff to cut but that’s because of the caramel mixture. These will not be the crumbly type brownies! Enjoy! Always a hit! Especially with kids. |
