Anyone have any ideas on what to bring to a party/block party? I'm going to a big party in Bartlett (I know I live here but my husband and I are special -I guess). Anyhoo, I'm at a loss as to what to bring - ie Unsure if I’ll have access to oven or keeping things oven hot? It will probably be 90-100 degrees out; So anything creamy may be out, -eggs, cream cheese, mayo, even vegetables… or to be kept cold unless I bring a bag of ice and find disposable bowls to “float” the dish in…which I wasn't planning on doing.
Worse case scenario my caramel brownies – but again, melting as well as how many batches do you think they’ll have of that?
They will have enough of that and even that will have to be kept cold. I'm unsure of the 'storage' issues, as I know that most of the ice will be for the kegs and already filled coolers. I mean I could try and bring a large container (spiggot/dispenser) filled with Sangria and ice and see how that fairs.
If you have to put this much thought into it...and it appears that this has kept you up many nights ...then I would arrive empty handed. Nobody will give a **** because it will be 112 degrees and humid. Back up plan...call in sick and go to The Glen. The AC will be on and you won't have to deal with what to cook because they sell food there.
Besides, why would you leave the lovely confines of Glen Ellyn to spend time in Bartlett? You only go to Bartlett to buy a tree. Remember that.

mmmmm caramel brownies. Can you drop off a few at my house? With the wife and kids being gone this summer, I miss things like cookies and brownies. I wonder if that has anything to do with why I’m 12 pounds lighter than I was a month ago…

And that's not like me.
It sounds like a lot of trouble, but it really isn't. We usually bring our bowl of pasta salad or potato salad and another larger bowl and some ice. Just throw the ice in a 2 gallon freezer bag and use it to bring home both dishes.
Fruit salad with more durable fruits (the ones that won't turn brown and stuff): Watermelon, grapes, mandarin oranges, pineapple.

Or....tell me what you think of this....go sit at the bar in some restaurant that you like and you can eat dinner there. This would be much more enjoyable than going to a block party on a day where the THI is 100+ degrees....my guess is you'll know very few of those in attendance (booooorrrrrring)....and you won't have to go to Bartlett, to boot. Plus, the restaurant will most likely be air-conditioned.
Why is this so hard?
Seriously, lupe...if it's a spouse giving you grief about attending, have him/her give me a call and I'll straighten him/her out.
And for the rest of you...all of those ideas suck compared to mine...as usual.
Go to McChesneys and pick up some dry ice, put it in a cooler with some Freeze Pops and you'll be the hit of the party. Well, until one of the little kids touches or ingests the dry ice I guess. Maybe this isn't such a good idea.

Actually all your ideas made me laugh and were good. I may consider the vodka idea. I wound up making Blueberry bars. A wonderful neighbor brought over a large container of blueberry he just brought back from Michigan. So.... I looked up some basic cake and bar recipes and lo and behold I found one with all the indredients I had in my house! I'm just waiting to cut them. Hopefully they will be good and I will publish the recipe. It's a combo of 2 recipes. I do that sometimes. I hear Blueberries travel and hold up well!
