Hey Glen Ellyn football fans, mark your calendars for the season opener for both South and West. The teams will play at North Central College in Naperville on Saturday, August 25 at 1:30. The sophomore teams will match up before the varsity game. Come out and see if West's new coach can get something started!

I've heard nuthin' but good things about that new coach. Hope that is correct.

Why North Central I wonder?

Because the GS athletic director was concerned about the students' safety if they played at either school's home turf. I kid you not.

Too funny. I take it he's angling for Wheaton North/Wheaton Warrenville South/Wheaton College-like turf.

Safety? Do they really think that would be an issue? Has it been an issue in the past?

The last I checked, that sport was fraught with high drama and danger. Perhaps he meant they needed to play at a neutral site so fans from the respective schools wouldn't tear each other apart...because of the hatred between the Northsiders and Southsiders and all.

If the caption under the huge front page photo of today's GE News is correct, South is playing EAST, not West.

That was just to see if readers are on their toes! Though they did get it right just under the photos, the paper also forgot to list West as one of the teams included in the Preview insert. Go West!

FWIW - My D41-educated 7th grader was looking at the GE paper over breakfast and called out, "Uh-oh, typo." He spotted the school name mistake before he even had the sleep out of his eyes! Go West!

Do they expect a huge turnout for this game?

I would say yes. South and West have each been given 2,000 tickets to sell. Tickets are already being sold at the schools $4 for adults and $2 for students. Members of Glen Ellyn Golden Eagle teams will be allowed in for free if wearing their game jersey. There are commemorative T-shirts being sold (and quickly) for the game and a special traveling trophy will be presented to the game's winner. Looks like the weather will cooperate, too!
