Varsity's #1 is a grandson of Mr. Bill Pope. The one who started Golden Eagles. The score board at Newton Park was named in his honor. Last year at one of the Glenbard West Varsity games there was a seat dedicated to him, somewhere up below the announcer at Duchon Field. He passed away in July of 2006.

It's o.k. to think things and even to know things. It's just not always prudent to state them to a bunch of people that you don't really know. I've learned that my own self. Tough lesson, but a very valuable one.
I wonder if it is more prudent to send questionable e-mails to those that question ones play calling but who are also celebrating ones success? I for one think not. But to get back to your comment, I wonder how often any of you first celebrate the season's goods before questioning the calls that maybe or maybe not were contributing factors to a really tough loss? As I was walking away from the field and when I got back to the tailgate I was at....that was all that was discussed....for over an hour.
[BTW - I still stand by my repeated comments that Illinois lost the Iowa game due to Zook's preposterous acceptance of penalties in the first-half which would have forced 4th and long opportunities. Zook, as stated in his post game comments, still disagrees. That being said, I still love Zook as our coach and still love the University of Illinois].
I have a lot more to say on the topic but I will choose to state those feelings to those who I know.
But I doubt anyone was second-guessing Zook's decisions. Chances are great that the Illini faithful quietly streamed out of Memorial and went about their business.
They might have been quiet....but probably not. If they were quiet, they apparently though went straight to a message board to "trash" the coaching of a team which is having the most success it's had in 6 years.
And for the record, I didn't start any of these threads or contribute to any of them. It's great to be a fan. If I were a coach, I would rather be relevant and criticized than irrelevant and ignored...in fact, I think that goes for everything in life.

There you go again...bleeding on my computer. I think we should strive to be like Blago and W - irrelevant and criticized.
My son and friends went to this game, but must have left before the "mini riot." I do know he specifically said he wanted to see the Fremd fans as they had YouTube postings and he was amazed by their intensity and devotion. I'll have to ask him if those posts are still there. Perhaps there was some pre-game internet activity fueling this.
