After 18 years in GE, we took the relo package and moved to sunny SoCa.
My eldest is entering her senior year at our local high school...and she still maintains friendships with her GBW pals. There was a concert this summer and kids being kids tested the limits. Their behavior was....as expected, Drunk and disorderly. (Thank God for Metra) The problem is their actions were captured on an iphone. Will it get out? Is someone holding it back and planning on releasing it at the right time? Watch and see I guess. Them hitters were hittin' it pretty good. |

you don't live here anymore what do you care?
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. |

It's really not difficult to come by, DTM.
It still blows my mind the way kids are about these things these days. Sure, we drank....sure, we sometimes got disorderly....but we certainly didn't do it in public, OR on video! Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele |

Well. They were children in big peoples bodies.
and there behavior was like children. damnit.....how many times have your kids come in with alcohol on their breath? Mine have and I'm sure yours as well. pass it off as do most frat bros that are now raising children in Glen Ellyn concert at Soldiers Field on the first Friday in July. What a show! |

While I think you misread part of that cryptic message by our former neighbor, it's an odd note, nonetheless. By and large,
kids will do dumb things. You did dumb things, ear-ringer did dumb things, I did really dumb things. The difference was, as
I have mentioned before, that in our day . . . you do something dumb, it ends up in a manila folder in a basement. Now, it
ends up on youtube or Facebook and the police have records that are a little more permanent and accessible to future prospective
employers. Kids are no dumber now than they were in my youth other than they seem to be begging to be caught doing various
things. We were so discreet as kids. We were vaults.
That said, the school does have an athletic code of conduct. Its contents are no surprise to the kids who participate in sports at GW. Break the code and you'll typically pay the price . . . along with your teammates. Not sure what the point of the original post was, but H.S. kids partaking in libations is hardly a surprise. BTW, GBW FB Fan . . . I'd drop the number from your screen name. There are only four kids out there whose mother/father you might be! My guess, the varsity one. |

Clam, your day and mine were much different, Sir. I've been out of high school only 12 years. While we didn't have a major
video upload, I promise you that when I drank I certainly didn't go home to my mom. THAT was a fate a chose not to embrace.
We did, however, have camera phones with video that floated around and oftentimes got back to parents and school officials.
It's just not rocket science to attempt to be smart when doing things you're not supposed to be doing.
It also certainly wouldn't have been as accepted as it seems to be now. I had a friend over who was over 21 one night, my mom found the wine cooler bottles (yes, wine coolers) in the trash and I was grounded for 2 weeks. Despite that it belonged to my friend and I didn't drink any of them, I was still grounded simply for allowing alcohol in the apartment when she wasn't there. THAT is the kind of parental mentality that curbs irrational and irresponsible behaviors among teenagers, not the "kids will be kids" thing. It's not the drinking that's surprising so much as (like you said) the apparent want to get in trouble for it....as well as the lacksadaisical parental attitudes about it. Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele |

Who is number 32 on the varsity? Wasn't dressed for the game, but was on the sideline. He is not listed on the roster.

Last years program list 32 as Demarco Whitley, he was the other boy injured in the car accident. I heard he is a manager this

Are you KIDDING me???? And we wonder why kids are doing these stupid things to such a high degree when that's the mentality being fostered in their homes! Call my kid a loser if you will, I'd much prefer she be a social outcast in high school and very successful thereafter instead of being one of the "cool kids" and ending up drinking wine from a brown paper bag on the sidewalk 5 years later. And Clam....that's because when they're driving, the drunk ones are the ones who live. Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele |
