Probably the greatest football game ever held in Glen Ellyn...and I know 90% of you attended...yet no one mentions boo about it.

You hit the nail on the head, Clam.

This was an outstanding event for our community. Stands were packed. Friends and neighbors greated each other. West boys hit on South girls. Big Grin Fans were charged up and yet respectful. Green, white, red, blue...it did not matter. Booster clubs worked together to raise an incredible amount of money in support of this Crosstown Classic.

And what a game! It doesn't get any closer. The "Golden Eagles Alumni Bowl" featured kids who knew each other, on and off the field. It showed.

Never have I been so inspired by an event in our community. For once, we were like every other area with two high schools down the street from each other. Ideas abound for making this an even greater summer spectacle in the future. It sounds corny, but I was really proud to be from Glen Ellyn on that day. And happy our kids are being raised here. What a game. What a great time.

Thanks to the school ADs who made this happen. And everyone who worked so hard to pull it off, especially the players.

On a side note, the Crosstown Classic follows the Jazz Fest, the Fire Muster and the always-popular 4th of July activities as successful summer events in our town. People show up for neat stuff. Hmmm...

Between getting the power back on, basements dried out, ruined personal items to the curb, branches cut and removed, insurance adjustors met - you get the picture - not everyone has time to pontificate about every frickin' irritation or event that is occuring beyond their own walls. Mad

Thanks for the opportunity to vent, now back to work.

P.S. - Wait until next year!

Clam, I was too busy playing golf in storm devistated Michigan where our motel had no power or water......Richland, MI in the summer is not a place to be if the power goes out and you have no water.

When I was in highschool, it was always the game you looked forward to playing, your cross town rivals. It is a shame it took 21 years for them to revive this game. Hopefully, they will continue this so that Junior IMJ can benefit from the experience.

I liked the Wheaton Central VS Glenbard West game better....get a little taste of it when Glenbard East plays Wheaton Warrenville South.

I guess the right team won......

Did anybody else notice that they split the pot of the 50/50 raffle - 1/2 winnings to a West Fan, 1/2 to a South Fan - and the winner from South donated his winnings (about $400) to the Booster Club. And the West winner kept the loot!

Karma.......

I agree that it was a great event and look forward to the re-match!

It's to pay his tax bill...

It was a good game though we had to leave early and missed the end-of-game excitement. Too bad. But the Sister Hazel concert at the Aboretum was great!

That's funny, I thought it was a Josh Kelley concert until the wife and I got there and saw him performing first before Sister Hazel did. Awesome weather!

Yeah, Josh Kelly has a great voice and some good music but he shouldn't talk between songs. My kids thought he was a dork and others around me seemed to feel "pervert" was a more appropriate term. My husband said, "Hey, I thought this was Josh Kelly, not R. Kelly." Big Grin Seriously, he's got a phenominal voice but he's WAY over-sexed for that kind of crowd!

The weather was completely amazing and I just love Sister Hazel. That's the second time I've seen them in concert. My only frustration was that there were clearly many people who just came to be at an outdoor concert and weren't really Sister Hazel fans. We were pretty far back and a couple of times we just HAD to stand up and dance and sing along but most around us just sat there listening...wish we could have been closer to the stage.

Didn't mean to hi-jack the thread. I don't usually do it though, so hopefully y'all will take it easy on me. Smile
