I've come across lots of amateur musicians in town. Would anyone be interested in performing in or attending a jam night?
The idea is to get a group together (it could be facilitated here if you need an intro) and then put together a couple of songs to play in a set, either cover or original.
Alternatively, it could be a chance to meet some fellow musicians and play, learn, socialize.
I'm just doing a little trolling here to see if there is any interest. It could be lots of fun.
Hey there MFF, I'd absolutley love to combine/work-in something like this with Glen Ellyn's 2nd Annual Backyard BBQ Cook-Off. See BBQ.Glen-Ellyn.com for details about our event. Is this something that may be of interest to you? Let me know your thoughts.
No, unfortunately I don't play an instrument. But I do think the BBQ could provide an awesome venue for amateur artists to showcase their talent. Our committee will be meeting in the next month or so, let me know if you'd like to attend.
MFF, I think you should seriously look into this....Great BBQ, Cold beers, good local talent....sounds like a recipe for perfection!
Here's another question for you....when you say amateur, are you including bands who play gigs in the local scene? Or simply those with talent not often displayed?

I mean either. Personally, I have had/played a guitar for a while, played with family and friends periodically. I mostly entertain myself and a few people around a campfire/in a basement. I've never played "out" as they say in the biz. I fancy myself an average amatuer guitar player with some talent, not often displayed. The reason I put this note out there is because it's sometimes difficult to make the connection to play with someone new, either because of anxiety about my own skills or fear of embarassment. What I've learned lately is that neither one matters when you play with people who love to play and are willing to learn/teach/share music.
Can you keep a beat on the drums and fill in some bridges? Do you like to play bass guitar? Do you want to play/practice/learn lead but need a rhythm guitar? Do you love to play rhythm but need a lead? Can you play chords, but I don't know how to put them together to just play and create sounds? Are you on the other side of that and don't mind sharing your talents and knowledge?
I was asking because I know a few guys who're in local bands and might be interested in this kinda "workshop" thing....I'll pass the word along to them and let you know if anyone's interested....
