I treated myself to a video today during the rainy-ness. As many of you (thank you for honking and waving when you drive by) know, I've been out working hard on my landscaping. Today, since the weather was so bad, I watched, "Lars and the Real Girl." If you haven't seen it, you must. What a great movie. Honestly, I want to live in a community where people truly have as much kindness, compassion, and humor as the people in Lars' community. IMO, it's a "Must See"!

Amy - As soon as I call the hotel for the Julius recipe, we can set a date to mix some up drinks, pull out the lawn chairs, and wave at all of the people driving by your house. That will be awesome!!

We can admire your landscaping at the same time - perfect! Smile

I suspect your TV is more likely tuned to "Dora the Explorer," than indie movies about a guy and his blow-up doll named Bianca.

And I know it is much more complicated than that, Amy! Smile

GEmom2, that sounds like a great idea! The only thing better would be to have an old couch out front! LOL! But seriously, I'm all for breaking out the lawn chairs and sipping on a Julius concoction.

And Fan, I only watched it after WEEKS of yardwork and house projects. The window trim is almost done!!! Yay!

It was a joke more so to evoke a phone call from my wife. I figured after reading this board, I'd get a call asking, "do you really think that's all I do all day"?

I would then laugh as she would have fallen for it. Turns out, she's too busy to read the board until the evenings.

What a waste.

I did the same thing last week, only rented Bella. A must! A well written beautiful movie. Compelling and caring, family and heritage. A lot of twists so I won't say any more.

Great cinematography, but Jomblette had nothing good to say about the female lead.

I agree with Joblette, she was a lost soul with a sad past. Which motivates to male lead to get involved.

Just rented No Country for Old Men. Not a buggy fav.

I guess I am in a movie mood.

GEMom, LOL I had to go to IMDB.com to figure it out!

Ever go there? Full movie synopsis, spoilers too but they warn you.

Yes, we frequently use imdb.com to assist our failing memories - or to resolve wagers.

We allowed the older two kids to watch it and at one point one of them said, "This is in 1980? Back then, two million dollars was really a lot of money."

We assured them that today it is still a lot of money! Smile

I could follow the story line just fine, I simply didn't care about it or understand the hullabaloo. I also don't buy the uber-evil character.

GEMom, the movied boiled down to one huge flaw that I couldn't get past.

Lewellyn a smart vet with sniper skills, tracking skills and McGuyver-like quilites who often was one step ahead felt guilty that he had no water for a wounded man? Come on, hours after leaving him in the hot, dry desert with serious gun shot wounds to the torso he expected him to be alive upon his return? Add to the fact a day could of passed and both sides would know the drug deal didn't go as planned so someone would be coming to check what had happened. If Lewellyn was as bright as they made him out to be he never would of taken the chance, thus no movie.

I think the point of that particular setup was Lewellyn's internal conflict. He saw the cash and thought he'd finally "made it". Yet, he didn't want to leave a wounded man so his guilt got the best of him and he brought water back for the man. His real skills didn't kick in until he realized he was the new target for a killer.

That said, I wasn't crazy about the film. It was certainly more violent than I can almost ever appreciate. I prefer more "suggestion" of violence than seeing the violence myself. The characters were interesting, to a point but generally I didn't care much for any of them and THAT is a problem. I wanted to care about Lewellyn and certainly I wanted him to "win". But it's one of those really dark movies where there is no real good guy. Though Tommy Lee Jones was clearly supposed to be the good guy and I liked his small town yet sophisticated thinking but...still, I was left sort of cold.

*** SPOILER ALERT TO THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN "NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN"***

Yes - the "checking the shoes for blood" as he left the house scene is my evidence. Also, the bad guy has the money and killed her anyway - didn't he give the kid $100-bill for his shirt?

Which goes further to Buggy's assessment - Why did Brolin's character hide the money behind the vent in the hotel room - after he knew the bad guy figured out that hiding place at the first hotel???

It's nice to give a spoiler alert but if people haven't seen it yet....well, too bad for them! Big Grin

Did Brolin's character know? I can't remember anymore - it's been a while since I saw it.

I agree with GEmom2, the wife was killed.

Another question: Why didn't Tommy Lee get "off-ed" at the hotel?
