One of my neighbors looked into renovating them and reopeing the bar. He was denied the chance, by the owner I believe. That, along with other things I have heard, leads me to believe...see "Downtown Glen Ellyn Redevelopment" thread...located in the Glen Ellyn - Everything Else section.

So very helpful and considerate of the threads.

He is just so accomodating. He did the same under another thread. Now I'm worried. I don't know whether to be scared or thankful.

What does the above post have to do with the bowling alley under The Glen, M?

Sorry I was so caught up in your kindness and ability to use follow the BB rules that I forgot the rest of my post.

This should have been prior to my posting. Thanks for keeping us on track. But it still feels weird.

I LOVE BOWLING

Is this a test or are you really trying to make Clam the enforcer?

I think reopening the bowling alley and a new bar is a great idea.

It's a great idea, but not for any investor that might think the building above it may be toast.

Bowling is the best.

Well I for one would support the concept of reopening the place. The smoking has to be stopped though. I'll bet the downstairs wreaks of smoke to this day. The lanes are still there???

I walked down the stairs not long ago, and the door to the place was locked and dark inside. I should have brought a flashlight.

If it does reopen I could not pass up the chance to apply to be a "pin boy." The job of my dreams. Big Grin

Support it or not...I'm telling you that Mike across the street already proposed it. And Mike was shot down.

Hesterman's was as cool of a dump bowling alley as anyone could want, and they couldn't make it.
BTW - what type of business replaced them anyway?

An architectural marvel of a bank, as you know. Roll Eyes I find it necessary to avert my eyes whenever I go by.

Oh, bowling rules!

I think bowling alleys, especially bowling alleys that sell decent food and $11 martinis...are big again.

We could ask Jamie next time we see him on the train.

What do people like to do?

Chat. Drink. Wireless internet. High price coffee. Liquor. Then, if they also like bowling, then why not combine them all together in one spot. As I recall from my youth, that place is pretty small. I'm remembering only about 10-12 lanes tops. And a small bar area.

When did that place close? I always thought it was a myth that a bowling alley was under there.

Southport Lanes only has 3 or 4 lanes....and is a goldmine. Of course...it's in a giant city. But still...a goldmine.

Don't remember that, but I do remember the car dealer that was there before Lee decided to turn it into the Bowling Alley and snack shop. Confused
