Does anyone know anything about the Children's Chorus? We have friends who recently relocated to Glen Ellyn and are looking for a musical/voice experience for their children. Can anyone participate? Is there a tryout? How much does it cost?
I have twins that were involved in the GECC for one year. Excellent program but for serious singers. Practice is twice a week. Cost is about $600 per kid if I remember. Concerts are very strict as well, no nail polish, no buckles on shoes, hair accessories have to match hair color. Posture is encouraged. Good overall program.
The GECC is Glen Ellyn's crown jewel. It is extremely unfortunate that many people in Glen Ellyn do not realize that the GECC's touring ensemble is one of the top five children's choirs in the country. The choir is not just for serious singers; it is for any child who loves to sing. Children are placed in the ensemble that best matches their abilities. They are evaluated at the end of the season and it is then determined if the child will move up to the next level. The organization is run by a highly professional staff that loves every moment of working with the kids. One of our kids sang with the GECC for many years. It was an amazing experience that she will never forget. Yes, she learned to sing well, but she also learned about teamwork, commitment and how rewarding hard work can be. The kids do get a little tired of rehearsals, but when you see their faces during a concert, you know they love every moment of what they're doing.
I've always thought that the floral clock was Glen Ellyn's crown jewel. I guess we differ in our thinking.
I know many children that are or have been in the GECC...they all seem like decent sorts. And they always do a good job of separating me from my money once or twice a year. Better giving it to the GECC than a "neighbor" selling magazines.
I am in the GECC and I can verify it has been one of the best experiences of my life, you get such a wonderful musical experience singing SOOO many different kinds of music with all different guest conductors and groups and touring across the world getting not only amazing musical but also cultural experiences. The people are the heart of it though, I met all of my best friends in the GECC and even those who have strayed to sports or other activities from all different towns I still spend time with all the time. The poeple are amazing and we all learn to appreciate eachothers talents and use it all to make one amazing choir!!!
