Right on Fish. Your answer brought back memories of Constitutional Law and the Skokie, Illinois protesting Nazis case.

And Clam, to add to Fish's answer, I'm not sure you have standing to sue.

Was talking to the neighbor about why no GE businesses partake in the Taste...she said she used to work at Shannon's pub and they setup a booth once, but never again...$1000 a booth plus wages for the peeps manning it...

Anyway, I think you are picking nits on this one. The cops are working anyway, maybe there is some overtime. Also, no one ever picks up garbage anyway so we know there are no extra costs there.

Point taken. I will no longer pursue this issue.

I know in Villa Park even not for profit groups will pay per hour for Officers if the Village thinks you need them and they will be VP Officers or there will be no permit.I'm not sure about events sponsored by the CC. I would think most Villages operate the same way.

Any chance the village would *ever* consider the Taste somewhere other than a parking lot with orange construction fencing?

The GE Taste is truly the most miserable place to be. In fact, I can't think of something *worse* than the Taste of Glen Ellyn in some parking lot.

Next year, they oughta save some cash and just have it at the dump.

God forbid they have it someplace like the apparent crown-jewel of the village... LAKE ELLYN.

So who is going to stop by "The Taste"? I think the Yoss clan will stop and then head to Firkins for cocktails.

That would be dogs-we've got three. Probably not since were going to Firkin's while were in town. It would be fun to let the youngest one mix in the crowd, he's a real social butterfly.

What if he asks me to buy him beer, is that OK?

That IS the definition of APPROPRIATE. If you see me buy me one too then ask me what the hell I am doing there.

I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac.
I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog.

As I mentioned yesterday, my eldest son will be at the carnival today with a couple of his friends. Since he has never gone to this event by himself, he and I walked up into town last night so I could show him the lay of the land. Each kid had planned to bring $20 with him as they had thought that each ride would be about $2. I (foolishly) told them that I didn't think the rides would cost that much, perhaps $1.50. They were thinking they could go on 9 rides and have a couple of bucks left over for something to drink from the beer tent.

As I was walking through the carnival I looked at the ticket prices on the ticket booth window. They were $1.25 apiece or 20 for $20...which....if I remember correctly from my District 88 upbringing, makes them $1.00 per ticket. Sign on the booth says rides require 2,3,4, or 5 tickets. As I turned my head I knew that the rides that a typical 10-11 year-old boy would want to go on was not going to require 2 tickets. Sure enough, all of the premium, boy-friendly rides require 4 to 5 tickets. Or, they cost $4 or $5 to ride...for two minutes. So, instead of each kid getting to go on 9 rides and have a beer, they will be limited to 4 to 5 rides and the beer may be in jeopardy. And no, I don't think it's a good idea to throw money at the kid and let him go on more rides. Sooner or later he needs to learn that places like this are out to relieve him of his money. But I do find it loathsome that the village sponsors this kind of event and allows our little kiddies to be charged unconscionable and exorbitant prices for these rides. I kind of feel bad for the poor little b@stards.

No dogs allowed in the Taste fairgrounds. My old lab (now passed on) and I were bonged last year. Had to send a surrogate to get my corn dog.

Bitch, bitch, bitch....Carnival workers have to eat too! BTW, they probably eat products produced from those grains/beans/corn things that you buy and sell and never actually receive or deliver. Your kid supports them, they support you....the new circle of life.

I've been on a cold streak lately and it's all because of the TOGE.
