Not wrong..I was joking. Screw the small handed cabbage smelling vermin.
I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac. I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog. |

I recall seeing something in the local paper that for $15-20 you got unlimited rides.... |

I am so glad my kids are creeped out by the carnival rides and don't want to go on them!
What bands should we plan on seeing? My 13 year old and husband will probably go tonight because I will have a house full of 4th grade girls this evening and they both would like to escape. |

We went last night, about an hour after it opened. Now, I don't like to complain, because I LOVE the Taste and all the fried food on a stick. But I thought - and I'd love to be corrected if I'm wrong - it was, well, small. Not as many vendors, that is. I was definitely missing the butterfly potato chips, which I look forward to every year. Also, some of the booths were just getting set up, which seemed odd. Overall, it just seemed much smaller, more lackluster, than previous years.
Did anyone else have this experience? |

I've decided that next year I am going to host Taste of Glen Ellyn Place. A little competition may help make for a better TOGE in coming years. Participation will be mandatory for residents of my street...and I have already assigned butterfly chips to the people across the street as I don't like them as much as others on the block and I'd like to see them peel lots of potatoes. Sorry about your experience, but you have something to look forward to next year. I only hope I can get half as sweet a deal that the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce gets from the village for police and public works help. See you next year, C |

I like that idea a lot! When we lived in Australia, the folks that were there with us from Kansas City were bummed that they were missing the big, annual BBQ cook-off held there every year so we all decided to have one in Australia. It was great fun - there was a bi-partisan team of judges who had to try a piece of each team's BBQ and choose the overall winner as well as winners from a couple of other categories. The Americans won but it was loads of fun! I got to try crocodile too!
Perhaps a neighborhood sponsored cook-off...of course everyone that samples the food will have to sign waivers in case they get food poisoning.... I think you've got a good idea Clam! Haven't been to the taste yet - haven't had time. "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. " -Bertrand Russell V. Delong |

I make one innocent mention about how I think it's just a little bit inappropriate that the U.S. Army marketed itself to my 10 year-old and his friends in the form of free video games and trinkets...and my dinner guests attacked me as being a left-wing nut job.

And I wasn't gettin' all crazy-assed Al Franken about it. I believe my exact, or near exact, quote was, "I'm not certain it's appropriate to market the Army to small children. It's kind of like Phillip-Morris handing out bubble gum cigarettes."

I was there last night, good crowd for American English. There were some "characters" sprinkled in, could have been carnies or the travelling band of mullet wearing carnival gypsies that seem to pop up at all these suburban fests. There was one mullet man who made his way over to Firkins about the same time as the wife and I. Boy, this guy reaked of cigarette smoke and he looked kind of seedy. Sure enough he tried to light up at Firkins, the bar tender quickly interceded and this creepy dude went out to have his nicotene fix.

Don't you have a peace rally with Cindy Sheehan to attend?

Took the latest addition to the DTM clan to the taste on sunday after church. We grabbed a seat to eat and timed it perfectly as tons of people came out of no where to sit and watch the Irish Dancers. My oldest son (3 1/2) said he wanted to grow curly hair so he could dance too. That bothers me a bit, but hey he's 3 1/2... I got my chicken on a stick fix for lunch and the bucket kid (1 month old) had breast milk. Nice to have good weather this year. I also stopped by that wine place on west side of main st. (just down from Shannon's) for the first time because they had a sign in the window touting Fat Tire Beer. Of course they were all out, because 'some lady came in and bought it all'. Probably 1958's wife. They did have some Three Floyds, Two Brother's brewing and Left Hand Brewery. They did seem a bit pricey compared to Binny's...anyone else notice this?

The local wine shop will always be more expensive than Binny's/Sam's. They have to feed the cats...Binny's does not.
Does your change in avatars mean that you have scored a position? |

Yeah, and you wouldn't want to piss off the cats. (Refer to Clam's avatar) |

I have lived in GE for 3 years now.....We went the first year because we were meeting friends from Wheaton, and have never been back. We were there for about 20 minutes and couldn't understand how the village could expect people to cross the train tracks to get between the food and entertainment and the rides. The kids that were old enough to be there without their parents, were constantly crossing those tracks. Even if the trains move through there slowly during the taste hours, it is still a hazard.

I'm with you on the Pepsi products. So sweet...just undrinkable. Beyond that, sorry to hear that you had a bad time at our annual festival of food and fun. As I grilled burgers Saturday night, I heard the sounds of American English. They sounded OK...but Terri Hemmert has done enough to sicken me about all things Beatles.
Anyway, take heart...for next year there will be the Taste of Glen Ellyn Place. The TOGEP has already signed a deal with Coca-Cola to supply their fine refreshments. The family that owns Euclid Beverage are close friends of the Clamato's...and they are also the distributor of Fat Tire Ale (no, I do not know when it will be available in 6-packs)...so I have signed Euclid Beverage as sole distributor of alcoholic beverages at the TOGEP. Food items will include styrofoam cups filled with Pirate Booty and other items from Trader Joe's, TOGEP's exclusive retailer. Entertainment will be provided via my iPod and the neighborhood Klipsch speakers. I hope to see you there. |
