So, I am trying to catch up on old People magazines. Imagine my surprise when I see "Alice I Have Been" by Melanie Benjamin listed as "New in Fiction" on their Books page in the February 15, 2010 issue. Way to go!!!
Funny, I've heard from more people who have seen the People - and also the Entertainment Weekly - a few weeks after they came out than I did right away. I guess those magazines get a nice long life in barber shops and doctor's offices! But thanks, glad you noticed it.
FYI, I will be interviewed this coming Sunday by Liane Hansen on NPR's Weekend Edition (actually, I was interviewed today; it airs on Sunday). For those who enjoy their coffee & Sunday paper while listening to the radio.
Side note - did the interview in the WBEZ studios; I always find it odd that our NPR affiliate's studios are at Navy Pier, the epitome of tacky tourist town. I did the interview, then wandered around, amazed at the stuff you can buy if you're so inclined - a thousand and one things with "Chicago" embossed upon them, Chicago Cubs wind chimes, White Sox neck ties, and a surprisingly large assortment of Barack Obama-themed items. Even saw a tourist snapping his picture with a Barack Obama cutout.
Ah, Navy Pier. Now I know why I haven't visited you in ten years.
